Bingo hall or online bingo?
Which is your preference, to play bingo online or one of the many bingo halls that are dotted around most towns and cities in the UK? Here we ask the question "bingo hall or online bingo?" Both have advantages and often quite clear disadvantages. There is no doubt that there is a growth in the amount of people that play bingo online and without doubt this growth will continue. The benefit of being able to play bingo online at your convenience and to suit your busy schedule, not being restricted to opening hours is clearly a big advantage.
The growth in home computer usage, better access to broadband and of course the much faster speeds of broadband as well as the change in modern lifestyles and technological advances are all reasons for marked and continued growth in the online bingo industry. The industry has responded well to the increase in consumer interest by continually raising the technological bar, to ensure that the individual who wants to play bingo online has the best possible software to use that is both user friendly, aesthetically pleasing and as close in excitement levels to the bricks and mortar bingo halls as possible. The area that online bingo cannot, of course, ever compete with is human contact.
The traditional bingo hall, very often housed in the grand buildings that once were cinemas or theatres, is a vastly different encounter than that which is experienced when you play bingo online. This part of British culture is still extremely popular though sadly it has experienced a marked decline in recent times. The Bingo Association believes this decline to be largely to do with the smoking ban that was introduced in 2007, however as is being seen on the high street presently in the retail sector, it is more likely to be the change in peoples lifestyle habits that are more likely to be the biggest cause.
There will unfortunately be a decline in the amount of high street bingo halls, as there will be in the amount of high street stores and public houses that are available. Technology has changed our habits, why struggle out on a cold winters evening to your local bingo hall when you can play bingo online enjoying the warmth and comfort of your own home, whilst drinking a glass of wine and if you are inclined, a cigarette – the like of which cannot be enjoyed in the pub or the bingo hall. However we don’t drink or smoke when we shop for CD’s, books, toys or clothes yet retail is suffering a similar decline. Is this down to recession only? It is more likely to be again the fact that you can order online and have items delivered to your door at your convenience, no parking, no wet weather and no crowds.
The future brings many changes and who knows what will happen in ten years time, after all the reason that many bingo halls are housed in old cinemas is due to the ability of people to enjoy a movie in the comfort of their own home on video. The future brought a resurgence and renewed popularity for going to the cinema, people remembering the better viewing experience, the ability to see new releases and of course the excitement. The market is still there to watch movies at home but still people flock to the cinema once more.
The popularity of the old style bingo hall may well return in a spectacular fashion, however one thing is very definite – the ability to play bingo online is here to stay!
